2019-11-13T20:36:41+00:00

What: #ResistTrumpTuesday #145
When: Tuesday, November 12
Time: 11:30 – 12:30
Where: Peace Corner (Wall & Greenwood)

At 10AM Eastern time on Tuesday, November 12, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments as to the legality of the Trump administration’s abrupt and cruel ending of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) which sent the lives of 700,000 people and their families into turmoil. The reasons for ending the program scarcely veiled the xenophobic roots similar to other racially charged decisions of the Trump Administration that spawned the Muslim Ban, the border wall, separating children as an immigration deterrent, and spending billions on immigrant concentration camps where people are STILL CAGED!

What is at stake? DACA and the lives of DACA recipients who are now contributing to their communities, and caring for their families.

If standing on the corner isn’t your thing, then consider the following action:

There could be another budget battle on the horizon which means approving spending on ICE and CBP. Funding for immigration enforcement has exploded under Trump, and his administration has used this money to separate, cage, and tear gas families, and to terrorize communities. The appropriations process is our best chance to stop Trump’s deportation machine.

Call your Members of Congress using this sample call script provided by Indivisible Sisters:

“The Trump administration is violating human rights with their horrendous treatment of immigrants and refugees. This inhumane treatment of families is not okay with me. America is better than this. I am not against strong borders, but this treatment of people must stop.

I urge you to cut funding for ICE and CBP in the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill, and get rid of the slush fund that will allow ICE to continue terrorizing immigrant communities.”

See you Tuesday.

Reminder:

We may be an unruly lot at times, but we must remain a peaceful one. Please DO NOT ENGAGE with any counter-protesters that may be present. There’s plenty of room for all.

That said, bring your signs! Bring your voices! Bring your friends! Vive la résistance!
